BladeEnc Frontends

The following programs are pure BladeEnc frontends.
They don't rip music or anything else,
they are just made to simplify the encoding procedure.
 

 These frontends are mainly divided into two groups: enclosing and non-enclosing.
Enclosing frontends totally hides BladeEnc from the user and provides its own progress indicator,
while non-enclosing frontends opens up BladeEnc's window when encoding starts.

Note: These frontends are for BladeEnc.exe, NOT the DLL!


 



 
 
 
 

AutoBlade

Description: AutoBlade is a non-enclosing frontend (i.e. the BladeEnc windows is opened when encoding starts, just like when you run it from the commandline) that is easy to use and works very well.
Features Drawbacks
  • Batch encoding.
  • Drag'n Drop.
  • Power down computer after encoding.
  • No priority selection, but it's using the default setting of LOWEST, so that will probably not give you any problems.

 
 
BEShell

Description: BEShell was the first frontend that was written for BladeEnc. Since then it has been released in a new version with Drag'n Drop support and some minor bugfixes. Non-enclosing.
Features Drawbacks
  • Batch Encoding.
  • Drag'n Drop.
  • Needs a lot of additional files to be installed on your system since it's written in Visual Basic. However, if you already have these files that shouldn't be any problem. If not, you can download them from BEShell's homepage.

 
 
BFree

Description: BFree is a nice looking, non-enclosing frontend by Peter Ogden.

BladeBatch

Description: BladeBatch is a very sophisticated frontend with loads of features. It totally encloses BladeEnc and provides its own progress indicator, making it look and feel more like an encoder on its own than just a frontend.

  • Batch Encoding where you can edit the batch while encoding!
  • Drag'n Drop.
  • Shut down computer after encoding.
  • Explorer context menu support.
  • Pause function.
  • None as far as I can see.

 
 
BladeEnc Helper

Description: BladeEnc Helper is a clean, straight forward frontend that doesn't enclose BladeEnc. 
It lets you choose your settings and select your files from one single dialog box and then starts BladeEnc for you. As soon as BladeEnc has been started it has done what its supposed to and can be shut down.

  • Batch Encoding.
  • Drag'n Drop.
  • Recursive search of samples to encode.
  • None as far as I can see.

 
 
DistributeEnc

Description: DistributeEnc is a frontend for distributed encoding over a network (i.e. letting a number of computers in a network work on the same batch), using the server and client model. I guess this frontend is a gift from above for all of you doing your encoding at work ;). It is only meant for distributed encoding, so don't bother downloading it if you're not connected to a network.
Features Drawbacks
  • Distributed encoding over a network!
  • Only works with Windows 95/98.

 
 
FrontBlade

Description: This frontend has come a long way since its first release. This new version is filled with features and can both enclose BladeEnc and run it open.

  • Shutdown computer after encoding.
  • ID3v1 tagging.
  • Doesn't seem to work too well on my system, so I guess it has some problems with NT... :(

 
 
RazorBlade

Description: RazorBlade is a feature-filled frontend that completely encloses BladeEnc and works very well. I consider RazorBlade to be of the same quality as BladeBatch, just a bit different, lacking some of BladeBatch's features and adding some other.

  • Minimize to tray.
  • Can do an automatic online check for new versions.
  • None as far as I can see.

 
 
Twilight

Description: A small and easy to use frontend that doesn't enclose BladeEnc. Somewhat limited in options though.
Features Drawbacks
  • Batch Encoding.
  • The authors have for some reason limited the choice of bitrates.
  • Some settings, like downmix to mono and the flags, can't be set.
